Former Rep. Tom Suozzi has been selected by New York Democrats as their nominee for the special election to replace ousted congressman George Santos in the state's 3rd Congressional District.
Suozzi previously held the seat for three terms before running unsuccessfully against Gov. Kathy Hochul in the Democratic primary in 2022.
The special election, scheduled for February 13, 2024, is expected to be highly competitive and could shift the balance of power in the House of Representatives.
Suozzi has pledged to work with both parties to make living in the district more affordable, safer, and better, and to put constituents ahead of partisanship.
