• Eddie Izzard, comedian and activist, has failed in her bid to become the Labour candidate for Brighton Pavilion at the next general election.
• Musician and activist Tom Gray, known for his band Gomez and activism in the music industry, has been selected as Labour's candidate.
• This is Izzard's second failed attempt to stand as an MP, after she campaigned to be Labour candidate for Sheffield Central last year.
• Green MP Caroline Lucas, who has held the Brighton Pavilion seat since 2010, will stand down at the next election.
• Izzard had promised to fight for a 'passion-driven creative education system', increase the supply of affordable homes, secure more money for the NHS and champion mental health if she was selected.
