Overview

  • Guinness World Records officially recognized him on June 5 for completing 16 burning parachute jumps during the climactic plane sequence of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.
  • Each jump involved leaping from a helicopter at over 7,500 feet with parachutes pre-soaked in fuel and ignited for roughly three seconds before deploying a reserve chute.
  • Filmed in South Africa’s Drakensberg mountains, the stunt required Cruise to cut away charred remnants and sometimes carry a 50-pound snorri camera rig to capture close-up footage mid-fall.
  • The film debuted at Cannes on May 14 and opened globally over Memorial Day weekend with a franchise-record $200 million launch and has since grossed over $360 million worldwide.
  • Cruise also extends his box-office dominance by holding the Guinness title for most consecutive $100 million-grossing films, marking his 11th straight blockbuster.
