Tokyo Opens Recruitment for Payment Partners to Expand ‘Tokyo Points’ Exchanges

The push advances the 2050 Tokyo Strategy by broadening where residents can convert app rewards into private benefits.

Overview

  • Tokyo announced on Jan. 16 that it is seeking QR-code payment and point-service operators to accept conversions of Tokyo Points within the Tokyo App.
  • Eligible applicants must run their own QR-code payment or loyalty point service and handle merchant management to participate.
  • Application details will be posted on Jan. 21, with the application window from Jan. 21 at 10:00 to Jan. 27 at noon and required documents due by Feb. 4 at noon.
  • Selection results will be notified and published from Feb. 9, and exchange start dates for each provider will be set through consultation with the city.
  • The recruitment coincides with a plan to accept requests from Feb. 2 for 11,000 yen in points for verified residents, with current exchanges available via au PAY, d Payment, Mercari Points, Rakuten Pay and V Points.
