Tokyo Film Festival to Open with Samurai Thriller '11 Rebels', Close with 'Marcello Mio'
'11 Rebels,' directed by Shiraishi Kazuya, will premiere at the 37th Tokyo International Film Festival, which will conclude with Christophe Honoré's 'Marcello Mio.'
- '11 Rebels' is based on a decades-old screenplay by the late Kasahara Kazuo and is set during the Boshin War, featuring a samurai squad on a suicide mission.
- The film stars Takayuki Yamada and Taiga Nakano and has secured distribution in North America and Germany.
- 'Marcello Mio' features Chiara Mastroianni transforming into her real-life father, Marcello Mastroianni, and includes her real-life mother, Catherine Deneuve.
- Chiara Mastroianni will also serve on the main competition jury, alongside jury president Tony Leung Chiu-wai and other notable filmmakers.
- The festival runs from October 28 to November 6, with the full lineup to be unveiled on September 25, and will include a new Women’s Empowerment section and a spotlight on filmmaker Yu Irie.
