Overview
- On Nov. 29, STF Justice Dias Toffoli flew to Lima on businessman Luiz Oswaldo Pastore’s private jet with about 15 passengers, including lawyer Augusto Arruda Botelho and former deputy Aldo Rebello.
- Botelho represents Banco Master director Luiz Antonio Bull and filed a petition on Dec. 3, the same day Toffoli put the case under maximum secrecy and brought supervision to the Supreme Court.
- Toffoli ordered that any new investigative measure be preauthorized by the STF and said the secrecy aims to prevent leaks and avoid market disruption.
- The inquiry reached the STF after police seized an envelope naming federal deputy João Carlos Bacelar, prompting the lower court to suspend proceedings and send related measures for Supreme Court review.
- Transparency International Brazil called the situation “extremely grave,” while Toffoli told interlocutors he did not discuss the case on the flight and described only a formal acquaintance with Botelho.
