Overview
- iPhone Handoff lets one phone number be used on two iPhones and makes the number instantly active on whichever device you pick up, but it requires iOS 27, two compatible iPhones on the same Apple ID, Wi‑Fi, and FaceTime, iMessage and Messages in iCloud turned on.
- T‑Mobile announced a $5 per month fee for the service and says calls, texts, data, mobile hotspot, Scam Shield, and T‑Satellite will work on both iPhones with an eligible plan.
- Deutsche Telekom will support the feature through its MultiSIM program rather than a separate Handoff charge, with an extra MultiSIM costing €6.95 per month or included on some plans.
- Apple warns the feature only allows one active iPhone at a time, some Wallet items like transit passes and IDs may work on a single device only, and an Apple Watch does not transfer between phones; once enabled the carrier must be contacted to turn it off.
- iOS 27 is scheduled to ship on Sept. 14 and Verizon and EE are expected to add support later this year, so users’ cost and setup will depend on their carrier’s account, billing rules, and when individual operators complete implementation.
