Homes' partner, Amy Robach, also withdrew from the race to accompany him to the hospital.
Holmes had expressed concerns about his Achilles in a social media post prior to the marathon.
Despite the setback, Holmes plans to participate in the upcoming New York City Marathon in November.
Holmes and Robach, both avid runners, have been living together temporarily due to a roach infestation at Robach's daughter's apartment.
