Titanic's First-Class Dinner Menu Sells for £84,000 at UK Auction
Menu from April 11, 1912, believed to be the only surviving copy, shows signs of water immersion
- A first-class dinner menu from the Titanic’s ill-fated maiden voyage sold for £84,000 (US$103,000) at a UK auction.
- The menu, served on April 11, 1912, shows signs of water immersion, suggesting it may have been recovered from a survivor or from one of the victims.
- It is believed to be the only surviving copy of a first-class April 11 dinner menu and was discovered in a photo album belonging to late Canadian amateur historian Len Stephenson.
- Other items in the auction included a Swiss-made pocket watch recovered from passenger Sinai Kantor, which sold for £97,000, and a tartan-patterned deck blanket likely used during the rescue operation, which fetched £96,000.
- The auction was conducted by Henry Aldridge & Son auction house in Wiltshire, southwest England.
