Overview

  • On June 14, a 15-member TMP delegation led by forest minister Animesh Debbarma met Governor N Indrasena Reddy in Agartala to deliver their memorandum.
  • The memorandum calls for a federal task force and a joint mechanism involving Assam Rifles, CRPF and state police to detect and deport undocumented migrants.
  • TMP noted that Tripura has hosted over 609,000 Bangladeshis since the 1971 Liberation War under a March 24, 1971 cut-off agreement for identifying illegal entrants.
  • The party highlighted that the state’s Mobile Task Force under Tripura Police has not succeeded in curbing persistent illegal crossings.
  • Referencing actions in Gujarat, Assam and Meghalaya, TMP urged strict implementation of MHA directives for swift detention and pushback of migrants.
