Overview
- Starting July 1, Tinder requires new users in California to complete Face Check by submitting a short video selfie during account setup.
- The biometric system compares live video selfies against profile photos and checks for duplicate or spoofed faces across accounts.
- Verification data is encrypted, stored for the duration of the Tinder account, and erased within 30 days after the account is closed.
- Face Check technology, powered by FaceTec, follows successful pilots in Canada and Colombia and operates separately from Tinder’s government ID–based verification.
- Match Group will assess user acceptance and authentication outcomes in California before deciding on a wider U.S. rollout.
