Tina Haltermann Wins Sylt Mayoral Runoff Election

The independent candidate, supported by the CDU, secured 55.6% of the vote and will lead the municipality for the next six years.

Tina Haltermann defeated Markus Gieppner in the April 6 runoff election, receiving 55.6% of the vote to his 44.4%.
The runoff was required after no candidate achieved an absolute majority in the initial election on March 16, 2025.
Haltermann, who has lived on Sylt for 20 years and holds a background in social sciences, will serve as mayor for a six-year term.
Voter turnout for the runoff election was low, with only 38.8% of the approximately 12,000 eligible residents participating.
The municipal election committee is expected to finalize and confirm the official results on April 8, 2025.
