Tin Oo, Myanmar's Pro-Democracy Stalwart, Dies at 97

The co-founder of the National League for Democracy and close ally of Aung San Suu Kyi leaves a lasting legacy in the fight against military rule.

Tin Oo passed away at Yangon General Hospital following health complications.
A former military commander, he co-founded the NLD with Suu Kyi in 1988.
He spent 14 of the next 21 years under house arrest or in prison.
Tin Oo played a significant role in the NLD's landslide victories in 2015 and 2020.
Myanmar remains in turmoil following the 2021 military coup.
