Timothy Busfield Surrenders in New Mexico on Child Sex Abuse Charges

Police say a UNM Hospital alert in 2024 triggered the case tied to The Cleaning Lady set.

Overview

  • The West Wing actor turned himself in to Albuquerque police and was being booked on two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor and one count of child abuse.
  • A New Mexico judge issued the arrest warrant on Jan. 9, and the Albuquerque Police Department enlisted the U.S. Marshals Service to help locate him before his surrender.
  • The criminal complaint cites allegations from 11-year-old twin child actors of repeated inappropriate touching between late 2022 and spring 2024, with one child later diagnosed with PTSD and anxiety.
  • In interviews recorded in the complaint, Busfield denied wrongdoing, described the set as playful, said he likely tickled the boys, and suggested the accusations were revenge by the boys’ mother.
  • Warner Bros. previously conducted an internal review that it said found no corroboration, Fox and Warner Bros. say they are cooperating with law enforcement, and NBC pulled a planned Law & Order: SVU episode featuring Busfield.
