Their hosting duties take place within the context of ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, limiting the actors' ability to promote their upcoming films on SNL; Chalamet stars in ‘Wonka,’ set for December 15 release, and Momoa headlines in 'Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom' releasing on December 22.
Chalamet and Momoa are supposedly appearing on SNL to promote their fashion campaigns, although industry speculation suggests this may be a workaround for the SAG restrictions.
'SNL' and its lineup of movie stars are readying themselves for a possible deal between the actors' guild (SAG-AFTRA) and the studios (the AMPTP, or the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers) which could end the 116-day-long actors strike.
Despite the strike, SNL has been able to continue production as it falls under a different contract category as a sketch and variety show.
