Overview
- The Call for Evidence opened on 19 March and closes at 11:59pm on 28 May 2026, inviting responses from disabled people, carers, clinicians, charities, MPs and others in accessible formats including BSL, Easy Read, audio, Braille, large print and Welsh.
- The review is examining whether PIP’s purpose and assessment process reflect modern living and work, ensure fair access to support, and capture differences in claimant experiences across groups.
- The process is led by Minister Sir Stephen Timms with co-chairs Dr Clenton Farquharson CBE and Sharon Brennan, supported by a 15‑member steering group bringing lived experience and sector expertise.
- DWP will analyse and summarise submissions and may use AI tools under human oversight to handle responses, with consolidated evidence provided to the steering group.
- Findings are due in the autumn to inform whether paused PIP reforms proceed, against a backdrop of record 3.93 million claimants in England and Wales and warnings from charities that the review must not drive cuts.
