Tilburg Shuts All Municipal Indoor Sports Venues Over Heavy Roof Snow

Hourly assessments continue due to safety risks from ice-laden roofs.

Overview

  • Tilburg closed ten indoor sports locations and eleven gymnasia, including Ireen Wüst IJsbaan, Sportcomplex Drieburcht and Zwembad Reeshof, until further notice.
  • Dongen also shut four gymnasia, a sports hall and a competition swimming pool as a precaution because of snow and ice on flat roofs.
  • Waalwijk kept four sports halls, two gymnasia and a gymnastics hall closed at least through Friday evening pending review.
  • Municipalities emphasize the facilities meet building standards under normal conditions, but exceptional snow and ice can increase roof deflection.
  • Broad roof clearing has not begun due to limited capacity and worker-safety risks, with subscribers and swim-lesson participants notified by email and location managers informing regular users.
