TikTok's 'Tunnel Girl' Ordered to Halt Underground Construction Project

Virginia Town Officials Step in Amid Safety and Legality Concerns

Kala, known as 'Tunnel Girl' on TikTok, has been ordered to stop her year-long project of constructing an underground shelter beneath her home in Virginia after town officials received a potential violation notice.
Kala's project, which she documented on TikTok, garnered 7.7 million views and sparked concerns about safety and legality among social media users and neighbors.
Despite Kala's claim that her neighbors were aware and approved of the project, reports suggest that many of her neighbors, who are mostly Central American migrants, were unaware and did not approve.
Kala, who is not a trained engineer, insists that the project is constructed entirely below the slab of her house and believes it shouldn't be too hard to get the permits and approval.
The town of Herndon is working with Kala to correct any violations and ensure that the property is safe and in compliance with the code.
