TikTok Launches Location-Based 'Nearby' Feed in U.K., France, Italy and Germany

The new tab uses opt-in, in-app location data to recommend nearby places to adult users.

Overview

  • Posts in the feed are selected based on a viewer’s location, the topic of the content, and when it was posted.
  • The feature is accessible from the home screen via a tab labeled with the user’s current location, and users can switch to view another place.
  • Location sharing is optional and limited to users 18 or older, with GPS accessed only while the app is in use and a visible indicator on iOS.
  • Content from users under 18, private accounts, or posts set to Friends or Only You does not appear in the feed.
  • TikTok says the feature boosts local discovery and cites that 46% of U.K. users visited a place they saw on the platform, while no timeline has been disclosed for expansion beyond these countries.
