TikTok Emerges as Fastest-Growing News Source Among Young Adults

A Pew Research Center survey reveals a significant increase in Americans turning to TikTok for news, especially among those under 30.

The share of U.S. adults who get news from TikTok has jumped to 17% in 2024, up from 3% in 2020.
Among adults aged 18-29, 39% now regularly get news from TikTok, a substantial increase from 9% in 2020.
52% of TikTok users report using the platform for news, compared to 22% in 2020.
Other social media platforms like Instagram and YouTube have also seen increases in users who get news, though at a slower rate.
Overall, 54% of U.S. adults receive news from social media, with Facebook and YouTube being the most popular sources.
