Tigress Released Into Chandoli National Park After Scientific Soft Release

The state-led reintroduction targets population recovery through intensive telemetry and field surveillance.

Overview

  • Tigress T-20-S-2, also identified as STRT–04 and sourced from Tadoba, entered the open forest around 8:15 a.m. on November 20 after a staged enclosure release.
  • Wildlife Institute of India experts conducted daily behavioural assessments during acclimatisation and cleared the animal for full release.
  • The tigress is radio-collared for 24×7 satellite and VHF tracking, with ground teams positioned to document movements and respond to any issues.
  • The release raises Sahyadri Tiger Reserve’s count to four tigers, adding a female to an area that previously held three males to enable potential breeding.
  • Officials describe coordinated monitoring by STR, Chandoli National Park and WII, with protocols for conflict avoidance, field triangulation and veterinary readiness in place.
