Overview

  • Detroit placed right-hander Kyle Finnegan on the 15-day injured list with a right adductor strain after he felt tightness while warming up in the bullpen.
  • The move was retroactive to Sept. 1, and Finnegan said he is confident he will pitch again this month.
  • Since arriving from the Nationals at the trade deadline for prospects Josh Randall and R.J. Sales, Finnegan has thrown 14 1/3 scoreless innings with a 38.8% strikeout rate and a 6.1% walk rate.
  • Outfielder Parker Meadows was reinstated from the 10-day IL following a quadriceps strain and is starting in center field after a season disrupted by injuries and underperformance.
  • With Finnegan sidelined, Will Vest remains the top late-inning option, and the outfield will feature Meadows with Riley Greene and a rotation of Wenceel Perez, Javier Baez, Justyn-Henry Malloy and Kerry Carpenter.
