Tiger Woods to Assist Redesign of D.C.’s Historic Langston Golf Course

White House environmental adviser Ed Russo says Woods will offer personal design input via lead architect Beau Welling.

Overview

  • Ed Russo confirmed that Woods agreed to help on the Langston redesign, while TGR Design said the firm has no formal role at this time.
  • Beau Welling is leading the Langston plan and also serves as a senior design consultant to TGR Design, creating the link to Woods.
  • The work is part of the National Links Trust’s 50-year effort to restore Washington’s three municipal courses, with Rock Creek under renovation and targeted to finish in 2027.
  • Russo said his responsibilities focus on environmental improvements along the Anacostia River, including habitat restoration and better water management.
  • Langston opened in 1939 to serve Black golfers, is named for John Mercer Langston, and the project’s principals note Russo’s long-standing advisory role to President Donald Trump and Woods’ prior ties to Trump-linked golf projects.
