Tiger Woods and David Blitzer Own and Play for Florida Team in New Tech-Infused Golf League, TGL, Launching in January
TGL launches with teams owned by high-profile figures including Woods and Blitzer, offering $21 million in prize money and utilizing technology to reduce match times to a broadcast-friendly two hours.
- Tiger Woods and David Blitzer co-own Jupiter Links GC, one of the six teams competing in the new Technology-infused Golf League (TGL), starting in January 2023. Woods will be a player as well as an owner for his team.
- The TGL, co-founded by Woods, Rory McIlroy and former Golf Channel president Mike McCarley, is designed as a 'modern twist of traditional golf', played in two-hour matches televised on ESPN and involves players hitting real shots towards a large simulated screen.
- The unique format of TGL involves teams going head-to-head for nine holes of alternate shot and six holes of singles. The matches will take place at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
- Playing for a prize fund of $21 million, with $9 million going to the winning team, the TGL aims to make golf more accessible and dynamic through technology. Players will also receive equity in the league.
- David Blitzer, co-owner with Woods, is an avid investor in U.S. sports leagues and is the first person to hold equity in five North American sports teams.
