• The Special Presentations section opens with world premieres from Steven Soderbergh, Alejandro Amenábar, Byun Sung-hyun, Nia DaCosta and Chandler Levack.
• Soderbergh’s The Christophers stars Ian McKellen, Michaela Coel, James Corden and Jessica Gunning in a dark comedy centered on art forgery.
• Nia DaCosta’s Hedda reimagines Henrik Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler with performances by Tessa Thompson, Imogen Poots and Tom Bateman.
• The festival’s 50th edition runs Sept. 4–14 in Toronto and includes live post-screening Q&As, the Industry Conference and Festival Street.
• TIFF will debut an International People’s Choice Award to let global audiences vote for their favorite premiere.
