TIDAL Will Tag and Demonetize Fully AI-Generated Music

The company says the policy aims to protect artist pay and listening quality by labeling wholly AI-created tracks and blocking their monetization.

Overview

  • TIDAL published its new six-point AI policy on Monday, June 29, 2026, and said the rules take effect on July 15, 2026.
  • Under the policy TIDAL will add an “AI” badge to tracks it deems 100% AI-generated and will not pay streaming royalties or allow direct-to-fan sales for those releases.
  • The service will use automated tools to remove AI music that impersonates real artists and will require distributors to identify AI content before submission.
  • TIDAL says it is working with an external detection partner and plans to expand labeling to “substantially AI-generated” works as detection methods improve.
  • The move puts TIDAL at the stricter end of industry responses to a reported surge in AI uploads — a development platforms like Deezer have cited as distorting discovery and payouts — but its effectiveness will depend on detection accuracy and distributor cooperation.
