Tidal Flooding Hits Weymouth Again as Flood Alerts Extend to Suffolk

Higher-than-usual spring tides, driven by onshore winds, are elevating harbour levels above tide tables.

Overview

  • Commercial Road in Weymouth flooded for a second day, with water around Lower St Alban Street and the Cosens Quay car park.
  • Environment Agency alerts remain in force for Weymouth and West Bay, with a forecast peak of 1.87 mAODN around 6:45am Thursday after 1.85 mAODN Wednesday evening.
  • Officials warned parts of the town could become inaccessible during high tides, including areas by Weymouth Harbour and the tidal River Wey.
  • Flood alerts were also issued in Suffolk late Thursday morning, with closures of floodgates on Felixstowe seafront and potential flooding at Pin Mill, Mistley quay and The Strand at Wherstead.
  • Authorities are monitoring conditions and advising the public to avoid flood water, with a further Environment Agency update scheduled for 1pm Thursday.
