Ticketmaster to Limit Users to One Account and Drop TradeDesk in Scalper Crackdown

Regulators continue their cases, with venue groups calling the measures insufficient.

Overview

  • Live Nation told senators it will restrict every fan and broker to a single Ticketmaster account, enforced through taxpayer ID verification and AI tools to detect and cancel bot-bought or duplicate accounts.
  • Ticketmaster will remove TradeDesk’s concert ticket management functionality, a broker tool criticized by the FTC, while insisting the software did not enable primary ticket purchases.
  • In the Oct. 17 letter, the company denied colluding with resellers or violating the BOTS Act, arguing resale makes up a small share of revenue and saying it has invested over $1 billion in anti-bot technology.
  • The FTC’s September suit, joined by seven states, alleges deceptive practices and says Live Nation and Ticketmaster collected $16.4 billion in fees from 2019–2024, including a “triple dip” on primary and resale transactions.
  • Industry groups, including the National Independent Venue Association, said the steps fall short and urged stronger reforms such as capping resale prices, while a separate DOJ antitrust case seeking structural remedies remains active.
