Overview
- The BSW Landtag group voted to dissolve in Erfurt Wednesday and minutes later ten former BSW deputies formed a new parliamentary group called Thüringen. Gerecht.
- Sigrid Hupach was chosen as the new group’s chair while Katja Wolf, the state finance minister, is a leading figure in the ten-member faction and nine of the ten are members of the newly founded party.
- The new group says it will continue to support CDU Minister‑President Mario Voigt’s CDU–SPD minority government, but the reconfiguration reduces the government’s counted support to 39 of 88 seats.
- Formal liquidation of the former BSW faction has begun and will affect the group’s finances and roughly 22 staff positions as legal and administrative steps are completed.
- The split grew from weeks of clashes between the Thuringia branch and BSW national leadership under Sahra Wagenknecht over government participation and the handling of the AfD, and deputies retain their seats under Germany’s free‑mandate rules.
