Thunderstorm Warnings and Flood Advisories Persist in Alabama and Central New York

Overview

  • The NWS first issued a strong thunderstorm warning at 11:33 a.m. EDT for Henry and Houston counties in Alabama, with wind gusts up to 40 mph expected.
  • A flood advisory was declared at 12:26 p.m. for low-lying areas of those counties and remains active until 2:30 p.m. due to torrential rainfall causing minor roadway flooding.
  • In central New York, the NWS issued a severe thunderstorm alert at 1:52 p.m. for Oneida, Onondaga and Madison counties in effect until 4 p.m., warning of heavy rain, small hail and lightning.
  • Doppler radar tracking shows slow-moving storm clusters capable of knocking down tree limbs and producing dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning strikes up to 10 miles from storm cores.
  • Residents are advised to seek shelter indoors, avoid flooded roads and remove unsecured outdoor objects to reduce risks from high winds and flash flooding.
