Thunder Will Retire Russell Westbrook’s No. 0 on Feb. 7

The team says the ceremony will enshrine Westbrook’s MVP season, franchise records and deep community ties in Oklahoma City.

Overview

  • Thunder general manager Sam Presti announced the honor in person with Russell Westbrook on stage at a Monday luncheon, and Westbrook reacted with visible emotion.
  • The jersey will be retired on Feb. 7, 2027, when the Thunder host the New York Knicks at Paycom Center and the team has promoted the date with the tagline “0 Forever 02.07.27.”
  • Westbrook spent 11 seasons with the franchise, won the 2016–17 NBA MVP after averaging a triple-double, and holds the NBA single-season (42) and career (209) triple-double records.
  • Team officials said Westbrook will be only the second player to have his number retired specifically for Oklahoma City and that additional ceremony details will be announced later.
  • The move formally cements Westbrook’s place in Thunder history, recognizes his community work in Oklahoma City and shifts coverage from retirement speculation toward a planned celebration.
