Thunder Acquire Daniel Theis and Draft Pick in Trade with Pelicans

The Oklahoma City Thunder bolster their frontcourt with veteran center Daniel Theis as they await the return of injured starter Chet Holmgren.

The New Orleans Pelicans traded center Daniel Theis and a 2031 second-round draft pick to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for cash considerations.
Theis, a 32-year-old NBA veteran, has averaged 4.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 16.3 minutes in 38 games this season with New Orleans.
The Thunder, currently leading the Western Conference with a 39-9 record, add Theis to provide depth at center during Chet Holmgren's recovery from a pelvic fracture sustained in November.
New Orleans' decision to trade Theis helps the team move below the luxury tax threshold, as his $2.1 million expiring contract is off their books.
Holmgren has recently increased practice activity and may return soon, but for now, Theis joins Jaylin Williams and Isaiah Hartenstein in the Thunder's center rotation.
