- Jessica Vincent, a horse trainer from Virginia, bought a glass vase for $3.99 from a Goodwill thrift store, which turned out to be a rare masterpiece designed by Italian architect Carlo Scarpa for the renowned glass company Venini.
- The vase, part of a series created by Scarpa in 1942 called 'Pennellate', was identified by members of a glassware Facebook group and verified by the Chicago-based Wright Auction House.
- The vase was auctioned for $107,100 to a private collector from Europe, significantly exceeding its initial estimated value of $30,000-$50,000.
- Vincent will receive about $83,500 from the sale, while the auction house will get about $23,600.
- Vincent plans to use a portion of the money to install an HVAC system in an old farmhouse she recently purchased.
