Three Villagers Hurt by Naxalite-Planted IED in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur Forest

Security units have intensified patrols, bolstering bomb-disposal sweeps after the Sunday evening blast wounded villagers foraging near Dhangol.

Naxalites often plant IEDs on dirt tracks to target security personnel, who use such routes during anti-Naxal operations inside forests.

Overview

  • The pressure-activated device exploded on July 13 in a forest corridor near Dhangol village under Madded police station limits, injuring Chidem Kanhaiya (24), Korse Santosh (26) and teenage Kavita Kudiam (16).
  • All three victims suffered leg and facial wounds while collecting mushrooms and were admitted to Bijapur district hospital for treatment.
  • Security forces operating under Mission Sankalp have increased combing operations and bomb-disposal patrols along dirt tracks following the attack.
  • Maoist insurgents commonly deploy hidden IEDs on remote roads and forest trails to ambush security personnel and, as seen most recently, civilians.
  • The incident highlights persistent detection challenges in Bastar’s dense forests despite government pledges to eliminate the insurgency by early 2026.
