Overview

• The crash occurred Thursday at about 7:35 p.m. on North Lewis Avenue just north of Beach Road in Beach Park
• A Mini Cooper driven by a 52-year-old Waukegan man crossed into southbound lanes and first struck a Buick SUV before hitting a GMC SUV
• The Mini Cooper driver was hospitalized in critical condition while five others, including a 34-year-old Buick driver, three children and a 48-year-old Zion woman, suffered non-life-threatening injuries
• Witnesses described erratic driving by the Mini Cooper prior to the head-on impact
• The Lake County sheriff’s Technical Crash Investigation Team continues to probe the factors that led to the collision
