Three South Dakota Men Sentenced in Separate Federal Cases

All three were immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service following sentencing by Chief Judge Roberto A. Lange.

  • Derek Kennedy, 43, from Fort Thompson, South Dakota, has been sentenced to 45 days in federal prison and eight months of home confinement for assaulting, resisting, and opposing a federal officer.
  • Wilson Brave Heart, 51, from Mission, South Dakota, has been sentenced to 13 months in federal prison for assaulting, resisting, and impeding a federal officer.
  • Joseph Thompson, Sr., 32, from Lower Brule, South Dakota, has been sentenced to 10 years and eight months in federal prison for voluntary manslaughter.
  • All three men were immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service to begin serving their sentences.
  • All three cases were prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of South Dakota, under Chief Judge Roberto A. Lange, U.S. District Court.
