Three South Dakota Men Sentenced for Illegal Firearm Possession

The U.S. Department of Justice announces sentences for prohibited firearm possession under Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative.

  • James Dubray, a 20-year-old from Pierre, was sentenced to over three years in federal prison for possessing a firearm while being an unlawful user of methamphetamine.
  • Israel Estrada, 29, from Sioux Falls, received a sentence of over a year for possessing a firearm despite a prior felony conviction.
  • Robert W. Blakey, 57, of Centerville, was sentenced to nearly two years in federal prison for possessing a firearm with eight prior felony convictions.
  • All three cases were part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods program, aimed at reducing violent crime through a collaborative community effort.
  • The sentences were handed down by U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier and included supervised release and a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
