Three Separate Chicago Shootings Leave One Dead, Two Wounded on South and Southwest Sides

Detectives seek tips after suspects fled each scene.

  • A man was shot multiple times after an argument around 6:48 a.m. on the 7500 block of South Stony Island Avenue in Greater Grand Crossing and died at the University of Chicago Medical Center; police did not release a suspect description.
  • A 17-year-old boy walking on the 6100 block of South Whipple Street about 8:20 a.m. was struck multiple times in a drive-by and was hospitalized in serious condition at the University of Chicago Medical Center.
  • Shortly after 1 p.m., a 63-year-old man driving on the 6300 block of South Francisco Avenue was shot in the lower back, drove to St. Bernard Hospital, and was later transferred to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition, while his 23-year-old passenger was not injured.
  • The incidents were reported hours apart in Greater Grand Crossing and Chicago Lawn on the city’s South and Southwest Sides and were treated as separate cases.
  • Police said the attackers fled in each case, no arrests had been announced, and Area One and Area Two detectives opened investigations.
