Overview

• The 18-year-old, identified as Kavita, was allegedly strangled in Melkunda (B) village on Thursday before pesticide was forced into her mouth to mimic suicide.
• Her body was cremated in a relative’s agricultural field in what investigators say was an attempt to destroy evidence.
• Those arrested include her father, Shankar S. Kollur, along with relatives Sharanappa Mahalingappa Kollur and Dattappa Cholabardi, police said.
• Farhatabad police registered a suo motu FIR and a forensic team collected bone fragments, soil samples and other material from the cremation site.
• Murder and evidence-tampering cases have been filed, two additional relatives are suspected, and villagers initially believed the death was a suicide and took part in the last rites.
