Three Qatari Amiri Diwan Staff Killed in Egypt Crash En Route to Sharm el-Sheikh Summit

Officials described a traffic accident near the resort with the summit schedule unchanged.

Overview

  • Qatar's embassy in Cairo confirmed three Amiri Diwan employees died and two were injured in the crash near Sharm el-Sheikh.
  • The injured are receiving treatment locally, and the embassy said both the wounded and the bodies will be repatriated to Doha on Sunday.
  • Officials said the vehicle overturned on a road roughly 50 kilometres from the city; Egyptian state-linked media reported five Qataris and an Egyptian driver were in the car and cited loss of steering control.
  • The group was part of Qatar's protocol team traveling for a high-level meeting intended to consolidate the first phase of the US-mediated Israel–Hamas ceasefire.
  • Egypt says Monday's summit will proceed under the co-chairmanship of President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi and US President Donald Trump with participation from more than two dozen leaders, including the UN chief.
