  • The IOPC has referred two serving Metropolitan Police officers and a former constable to a gross misconduct hearing and ordered reflective practice reviews for three other officers.
  • Both serving officers are currently restricted to non-operational duties until the hearing concludes.
  • During the May 2023 incident in Peckham, officers targeted a 90-year-old dementia patient with a Taser, handcuffed her and applied a spit hood after she spat at them.
  • The IOPC probe launched in June 2023 concluded in January that there was a case to answer for gross misconduct but found no evidence of discrimination based on race or sex.
  • The Crown Prosecution Service reviewed the evidence in November 2023 and upheld its decision not to bring criminal charges against any officer.
