Three Men Remanded Over Brighton Beach Rape Allegation as Crown Court Date Set

The case now moves to a plea and trial preparation hearing at Lewes Crown Court on November 13.

Overview

  • Police say a 33-year-old woman reported being raped on Brighton’s lower esplanade at about 5am on October 4.
  • Abdulla Ahmadi, 25, an Iranian from Crewe, and Karin Al-Danasurt, 20, and Ibrahim Alshafe, 25, both Egyptians from Horsham, are each charged with two counts of rape.
  • Al-Danasurt and Alshafe appeared at Crawley Magistrates’ Court with interpreters while Ahmadi appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court, and all three were remanded in custody.
  • Prosecutors told the court the complainant described a “horrendous ordeal,” and Sussex Police said specialist officers are supporting her.
  • The Home Office confirmed all three arrived via small boats with pending asylum decisions, and police are not seeking other suspects while appealing for information under Operation Brampton.
