Overview
- In early October 2026 Worcester Crown Court jailed Arjan Purewal, Jaskaran Thandi and Hassan Jangheer to more than 20 years in total with Purewal receiving eight years and six months and a lifetime requirement to register as a sex offender.
- The court heard the student was picked up in Birmingham’s Broad Street area on 16 September 2023, driven to Vine Lane in Clent and left in a remote spot after multiple sexual assaults were carried out.
- Judges were told the attack was premeditated and that Purewal hired a BMW using someone else’s licence and fake ID, filmed the assaults on his phone and faced additional convictions for blackmail and perverting the course of justice.
- West Mercia Police attended after the victim called officers at about 3.30am and said the survivor has been offered support while detectives welcomed the custodial sentences as accountability for the perpetrators.
- The case highlights concerns about targeted, predatory behaviour around city nightlife and the misuse of false identity to hire vehicles, a risk police say they are addressing as they urge victims to come forward.
