Three Men in Scotland Accused in Ontario Restaurateur’s Death Consent to Extradition to Canada

Scottish court remanded them pending a ministerial decision on their transfer.

Overview

  • Robert Evans Jr., 25, his father Robert Busby Evans, 47, and uncle Barry Evans, 54, consented in Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday to be extradited to Canada.
  • Canadian prosecutors have charged Evans Jr. with manslaughter and charged the elder Evans and Barry Evans as accessories after the fact in the August 2023 death of Sharif Rahman.
  • Sheriff Julius Komorowski told the men their decision is irrevocable, ruled there will be no further hearings or appeals, and ordered them held in custody.
  • The cases were referred to Scottish ministers for transfer, and no extradition date has been announced.
  • A letter from Canadian authorities read in court said prosecutors would recommend that time spent in Scottish custody be credited against any Canadian sentence if they are convicted, with no guarantee.
