Three Men Held as Murder Probe Continues After Newcastle-under-Lyme Stabbing

Detectives say the fast-moving inquiry will rely on forensic work alongside public CCTV submitted through an online portal to build a case

Overview

  • Police were called to Orme Road after a collision on Friday 4 September and found a man in his 20s with injuries consistent with a stab wound who later died in hospital.
  • Staffordshire Police have named the victim as 20-year-old Jamie Evans of Stone and said his family are being supported by specially trained officers while they paid tribute to him.
  • Three local men aged 19, 20 and 22 have been arrested with two held on suspicion of murder and one on suspicion of conspiracy to murder; all remain in custody as questioning continues.
  • Detectives have launched a dedicated investigation called Operation Weststar, carried out forensic and CCTV enquiries, lifted the Orme Road cordon and are asking the public to submit dashcam, CCTV or doorbell footage via a Major Incident Public Portal.
  • Officers have increased patrols to reassure the community and say the probe is moving at pace while charging decisions and further forensic results are pending.
