• Chelmsford Crown Court jailed Stuart Williams for two years and four months, Martin Peagram for two years and two months, and Dean Smith for one year and ten months for violent disorder.
• Judge Jamie Sawyer said the conduct went beyond lawful protest and was racially motivated at least in part.
• Prosecutors said the July 17 rally drew about 500 protesters and 50 counter-protesters, with officers attacked for more than four hours, police vehicles damaged and nearby businesses forced to close early.
• The court heard Williams climbed onto the Bell Hotel roof and a nearby school roof, Peagram kicked a police carrier and threw a can, and Smith punched an officer’s shield and shoved officers.
• Luke Fleming, 21, pleaded not guilty to violent disorder and is scheduled to stand trial from March 23 next year.
