Three Injured in Royal Bolton Hospital A&E Attack as 22-Year-Old Detained

The case has intensified scrutiny of hospital security after a recent separate attack in Newton-le-Willows.

  • Greater Manchester Police were called to Royal Bolton Hospital shortly after 4:15pm on January 2 following reports of assaults in the A&E waiting area.
  • A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 and Section 47 assault, assault on a police officer, and racially aggravated public order.
  • Police said three people were injured, including a man in his 30s with serious ear injuries who has been discharged, while a woman in her 40s and a man in his 70s were treated for minor injuries at the scene.
  • Witness Michael Anderson and a nurse restrained the suspect until security and officers arrived, and the hospital has indicated an internal investigation will take place.
