Overview
- Greater Manchester Police were called to Royal Bolton Hospital shortly after 4:15pm on January 2 following reports of assaults in the A&E waiting area.
- A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 and Section 47 assault, assault on a police officer, and racially aggravated public order.
- Police said three people were injured, including a man in his 30s with serious ear injuries who has been discharged, while a woman in her 40s and a man in his 70s were treated for minor injuries at the scene.
- Witness Michael Anderson and a nurse restrained the suspect until security and officers arrived, and the hospital has indicated an internal investigation will take place.
- The suspect has been detained under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act, and officers have appealed for information quoting log 2055 of 02.01.2026.
