Three Horses Killed as A3 Northbound Closes After Lorry and Car Collisions

Recovery work keeps the London-bound carriageway shut between Burntcommon and Ockham with signed diversions in place.

Overview

  • Surrey Police were called around 1:40am to reports of two loose horses struck by a lorry, followed by a separate collision involving a car and a horse.
  • Officers found three horses deceased at the scene north of Guildford.
  • The A3 northbound remains closed between the A247 (Burntcommon) and the B2039 (Ockham) as debris and recovery operations continue.
  • National Highways initially indicated a reopening from around 8:00–8:30am, but late-morning updates reported the road still shut with delays of about an hour.
  • A signed diversion sends traffic via the B2215 through Burntcommon and Ripley to rejoin at Ockham, and police are engaging with the involved drivers as enquiries continue.
