Three Fatal Crashes Strike McHenry County Roads in 12 Hours

Investigations continue after the sheriff expanded traffic patrols to detect speeding, distracted driving, impaired operation

Overview

  • Three fatal crashes struck McHenry County roads within a 12-hour span at Kishwaukee Valley Road and Deerpass Road in Marengo, Kishwaukee Valley Road near Woodstock and Hebron Road in Harvard.
  • In one collision a Dodge Ram crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a semi-truck, and in another a GMC Sierra left the roadway, struck a utility pole and overturned; both drivers died at the scene.
  • Investigations remain active by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Traffic Crash Investigation Team and the county coroner’s office.
  • Sheriff Robb Tadelman has ordered increased traffic patrols and urged motorists to slow down, buckle up, avoid distractions and drive sober.
  • Woodstock, Harvard and Marengo fire and EMS districts said oppressive heat with heat indexes above 100°F has added strain to emergency response resources.
