Overview
- Three adult men diving on a reef near Duck Key were separated from their vessel in rough seas and were found floating by rescuers.
- A U.S. Navy Search and Rescue helicopter spotted the divers nearly 2 nautical miles from their entry point and directed recovery efforts.
- Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission marine officers brought the men and their gear aboard an FWC patrol vessel and reunited them with their dive boat.
- The search involved FWC, U.S. Navy Search and Rescue, U.S. Coast Guard Station Marathon, and Rescue Key West and was credited by Monroe County Capt. Adam Garrison for its rapid coordination.
- FWC released bodycam footage of the rescue and officials said the case highlights how strong currents in the Florida Keys can quickly carry divers from their boats and why quick notification and mixed aviation/marine responses matter.
